NEW YORK (May 25, 2012) - Monday’s grade I Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park will be the first Breeders’ Cup Challenge race held in the U.S. this year. The winner of the Met Mile will earn an automatic starting position into the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park, Nov. 2-3. The Breeders’ Cup Challenge is a global series of 73 stakes races whose winners receive automatic starting berths into a corresponding race of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 24, 2012) – The Breeders’ Cup has announced that 22 individuals are on the ballot for the election of 16 Breeders’ Cup Members. On June 4, the Breeders’ Cup election web site will open for current Breeders’ Cup foal and stallion nominators to begin the election process. Of the 22 candidates on the ballot, nine are Members standing for re-election. Each elected Member will serve a four-year term.

BUENOS AIRES (May 24, 2012) – A field of 14 horses has been entered for Friday’s Gran Premio 25 (G1) at San Isidro with the winner receiving an automatic berth into the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita Park on November 3. The Gran Premio 25, to be run at 1 ½ miles for 3-year-olds and up on the turf course, is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge, a global series of 73 stakes races whose winners receive automatic berths into a corresponding race of the Breeders’ Cup Word Championships.

Longshot Master of Design earned a berth in the 2012 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (gr. I) when he captured the AUS$1 million Darley T.J. Smith Stakes (Aus-I) at Royal Randwick April 14. The Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint will be held during the Breeders’ Cup World Championships Nov. 2-3 at Santa Anita Park. It is to be contested on track's hillside turf course. The T.J. Smith is part of the Breeders' Cup Challenge, a global series of 73 stakes races whose winners earn automatic starting positions into a corresponding Breeders’ Cup race.
