Songbird completed a brilliant season in 2015 by winning all four of her starts, capping it off with a majestic victory in the $2 million 14 Hands Winery Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Under the careful guidance and steady hand of two Hall of Fame members, trainer Jerry Hollendorfer and jockey Mike Smith, Songbird’s front-running style was no match for her rivals in the Juvenile Fillies at Keeneland. Even breaking from the outside post in a 10-horse field, Songbird effortlessly made her way to the front during the first quarter mile of the race and steadily increased her margin all the way around the racetrack, coming home 5 ¾ lengths ahead of second place Rachel’s Valentina at the wire. Songbird completed 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.73.

"Once we jumped out the gate, it was just a matter of me staying on," said Smith. "She's so talented and she gives you so much confidence. I almost felt like yawning as we went along. I don't mean that in a bragging way. She just gives me that much confidence. I'm really blessed to be a part of this great team."

Songbird’s Breeders’ Cup win continued a familiar pattern displayed in her previous three triumphs. Her final prep for Keeneland was a commanding performance in the 1 1/16 mile Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita September 26, when she romped by four and a half lengths. She won the Del Mar Debutante earlier in the month by an even larger margin — five and a half lengths. Songbird broke her maiden at Del Mar, winning at six furlongs by 6 ½ lengths.

Songbird completed her first season at the races with three grade one wins and earnings of $1,502,000.

In January of 2016, Songbird won the Eclipse Award for Champion 2-year-old Filly and was also rated the top juvenile filly in the prestigious Jockey Club Free Handicap rankings.
Songbird, a dark bay or brown daughter of Medaglia d’Oro, was purchased by owner Fox Hill Farm for $400,000 as a yearling at Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale. She was bred in Kentucky by John Antonelli.
