Found (IRE)

The 3-year-old filly Found, owned by Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith, and trained by Aidan O’Brien, had faced some of the best group one competition in Europe in 2015, but could only find the winner’s circle just once in seven tries coming into the Longines Turf at Keeneland. Her fall campaign of four races against top male rivals included a gutsy second-place finish by a neck to Golden Horn (GB) in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown in September. She then finished ninth in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe to Golden Horn – the only time she was not first or second in a race all year – but came back two weeks later with another solid second place finish in the Champion Stakes at Newmarket. Just two weeks after that, at Keeneland, bettors showed her respect, sending her off as the 4-1 second choice behind 4-5 Golden Horn in the Longines Turf. While pacesetter Shining Copper went as many as 20 lengths in front during the first half of the race, jockey Ryan Moore kept Found in fifth position just behind Golden Horn. Swinging around the far turn Found followed Golden Horn on her inside to the front as she was challenged to her outside by Big Blue Kitten. At the 1/16th pole, Found dug in. Her head slung low, she edged past Golden Horn for a half-length victory in 2:32.06 for the 1 ½ miles over good ground. Three races in three countries in 27 days, culminating with her biggest career moment. "I'm absolutely delighted," O'Brien said afterward. "She's a very special mare. To run in two Champion Stakes and the Arc, and then to come here and win, is quite remarkable. She's very special." "It's very special to beat a very good colt [Golden Horn] who has won everything in Europe this year, so it was a great performance," Tabor said. Found became just the third filly to win the Longines Turf, following in the footsteps of Pebbles (GB) in 1985, and Miss Alleged in 1991. It was O’Brien’s fourth training victory in the Turf, having captured it back-to-back with High Chaparral in 2003 (dead-heating with Johar) and 2004 and with St. Nicholas Abbey (IRE) in 2011. Found had shown great promise as a 2-year-old winning the Prix Marcel Boussac (G1) in France. She won the Group 3 Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh at three and was second in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes against fillies at Royal Ascot.
