A star in her division in 2014, Stopchargingmaria remained among the elite in 2015 while racing for a different owner, but with the same trainer in Todd Pletcher. After carrying the colors of Mike and Maria Repole to victory in such races as the 2014 Alabama Stakes (G1) at Saratoga, Stopchargingmaria was campaigned in 2015 for the Town and Country Farms of Louise Courtelis and her daughter Kiki.

In her first start for Town and Country in April, Stopchargingmaria was second in Keeneland’s Madison Stakes (G1). She put her connections in the winner’s circle on May 15 when she captured the Allaire DuPont Distaff Stakes (G3) at Pimlico, and again in August in Saratoga’s Shuvee Handicap (G3). In her next start, Stopchargingmaria was fourth as the favorite in the Personal Ensign Stakes (G1) at Saratoga on Aug. 29.

Pletcher decided not to race the 4-year-old daughter of Tale of the Cat until the Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff eight weeks later.

She spent October at Keeneland working in company with promising 2-year-old filly Rachel’s Valentina, who finished second to Songbird in the 14 Hands Winery Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies.

More than 44,000 fans at Keeneland witnessed the dramatic finale of Breeders’ Cup Friday, the first ever Breeders’ Cup held at the renowned Lexington race course. Under jockey Javier Castellano, Stopchargingmaria raced wide around the backstretch in the bulky 13 horse field. A wide open raced developed as the horses approached the far turn. Stopchargingmaria came on strongly into the stretch, where she was met on her outside by Stellar Wind as the two fillies — 7-1 choices — forged a battle to the wire, with Stopchargingmaria getting her neck in front at the wire in 1:48.98.

However, a stewards’ inquiry ensued because Stopchargingmaria had drifted out in the stretch. But the stewards saw no evidence of interference, so Stopchargingmaria was indeed the winner. “She ran her eyeballs out,” said Kiki Courtelis.

Pletcher also credited her preparation. "The real key was when we made the decision not to run back after the Personal Ensign and train her up to this," the trainer, who won his ninth Breeders Cup race, said afterward. "Being able to be with her in her 2- and 3-year-old years, I know that she runs her best races sometimes when she's fresh. I think that was the key, and how she trained here.”

Stopchargingmaria first appeared at Keeneland for the 2012 September yearling sale where she was sold for $47,000. She was resold to the Repoles for $220,000 at the 2013 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s March 2-year-olds in training sale. Last year as a young Grade 1 winner in peak form, Stopchargingmaria was a hot commodity the third time she stepped in front of the auctioneer stand at Fasig-Tipton Co.’s November sale in Lexington. She was listed as reserve not attained on a final bid of $3.15 million and later was sold privately to Town and Country.
