Owner Ken Ramsey is known for naming the progeny of his champion and leading sire Kitten’s Joy for people close to his heart – his 2011 Juvenile Fillies Turf winner Stephanie’s Kitten is named for his granddaughter.

In 2013, the owner and breeder was undecided as to which of his budding juveniles he should name for one of his former trainers, the late Hall of Fame conditioner Bobby Frankel. So Ramsey instructed trainer Chad Brown – a former assistant to Frankel – to work a pair of promising youngsters by Kitten’s Joy head-to-head one morning. The winner of that workout duel became Bobby’s Kitten, who has done his best to live up to Frankel's memory, running third in the 2014 Woodbine Mile and second in the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame Stakes at Saratoga.

Finishing third in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, Bobby’s Kitten returned to Santa Anita in 2014 to win the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint. It was the first time the colt had ever raced at a distance less than a mile, and he earned the victory with a late run from last to first, defeating favored No Nay Never by half a length.
