Dank (GB) returns to the 2014 Filly and Mare Turf after winning the event in 2013 en route to year-end Eclipse Award honors as North America’s champion grass mare. A year ago she tuned up for the Breeders’ Cup by romping to victory in the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes at Arlington Park in her North American debut. This year she arrives well rested. The five-year-old mare has had a light campaign in 2014 and has not raced since checking in fifth in the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 18. In her only other start this season, Dank was third in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free at Meydan in the United Arab Emirates in March.
Dank is an equal opportunity runner who rarely races twice at the same track. She has competed at 10 different venues in four countries in her 14 starts and has entered the winner’s circle half the time. She looked at home on the Santa Anita grass in the 2013 Filly and Mare Turf as she battled gamely to win by a half-length as the 3-to-2 betting favorite.
