Storm Song was a precocious filly who came to hand early for Hall of Fame trainer Nick Zito. She made her 2-year-old debut as early as April at Keeneland and ran away from a full field by 4 lengths. Two races later she ran away from the field in the Grade 2 Adirondack at Saratoga. After a dismal performance in the Grade 1 Spinaway, Zito elected to change jockeys and Craig Perret got the call.
Stretching to a mile, Storm Song ran a close second to Sharp Cat in the Grade 1 Matron and then turned the tables on her at Belmont Park at 1 1/16 miles with a perfect trip in the Grade 1 Frizette. That effort set her up perfectly at the distance at Woodbine and she ran an identical race in the Juvenile Fillies. She relaxed for Perret early and went on to win by 4 1/2 lengths.
