To breed a champion brings a unique heart-felt appreciation for the owner and breeder of a Breeders’ Cup winner. Bob and Beverly Lewis were stout supporters of racing and raised many a successful stakes winner. Their 2-year-old filly Folklore was sired by two-time Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Tiznow and she made her sire proud.
Trained by Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas, Folklore won her second time out, and two races later captured the Grade 2 Adirondack Stakes. She finished a length short of winning the Grade 2 Spinaway in her next start. If there were any questions about her quality she next won the Grade 1 Matron at Belmont Park by 14 lengths. In the Juvenile, jockey Edgar Prado put her in front, and after letting Knights Templar go to the front briefly, she easily regained the lead to win by 1 1/4 lengths.
