Third in the inaugural Breeders’ Cup Mile, Cozzene closed out his career with a 2 1/4-length victory in the 1985 Championships at Aqueduct, a triumph that secured the Florida bred the Eclipse Award as champion turf male for that year. Cozzene gave jockey Walter Guerra his second and final Breeders’ Cup victory and the lone Championships triumph for trainer Jan Nerud.

A winner at five tracks during his career, Cozzene won his first start on May 25, 1983 at Belmont Park. In addition to his Breeders’ Cup victory, Cozzene won the Longfellow (Grade 2) and Oceanport (Grade 3) handicaps at Monmouth Park in 1985. Cozzene sired two Breeders’ Cup winners: Tikkanen (1994 Turf) and Alphabet Soup (1996 Classic).
