Miesque

Breeders’ Cup Champion
Jockey:
F. Head
Trainer:
F. Boutin
Owner:
Flaxman Holdings Ltd.
Breeder:
Live Oak Stud

The North American debut of Miesque could not have been more impressive as she romped to a 3 1/2-length victory in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Hollywood Park in a course-record time of 1:32 4/5. Miesque’s victory gave jockey Freddy Head and trainer Francois Boutin their first of multiple Breeders’ Cup successes and earned the filly the 1987 Eclipse Award as champion turf female.

The 1987 margin of victory in the Mile stood as the largest in the race for 50 weeks when Miesque became the Championships’ first two-time winner by repeating at Churchill Downs, this time by four lengths in her final race. A seven-time Group 1 winner in France with five of those triumphs coming at Longchamp, Miesque was elected into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame in 1999.
