Miesque's Approval

Breeders’ Cup Champion
Jockey:
E. Castro
Trainer:
M. Wolfson
Owner:
Live Oak Plantation
Breeder:
Live Oak Stud

Like a fine wine, Miesque’s Approval seemed to get better with age, winning nearly half of his 12 career wins as a 7-year-old in 2006, none bigger than his shocking four-length triumph in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at odds of 24-to-1.

Trained by Florida-based Marty Wolfson for owner Live Oak Plantation, Miesque’s Approval won seven of 32 starts from 2001 to 2005, including the Grade 3 Kent Breeders’ Cup Stakes. His breakthrough came in 2006, when the bay horse finished first in five of seven starts, earning nearly $2 million in purse money and being voted Eclipse Award champion as top turf male. On a Churchill Downs turf course listed as firm, Miesque’s Approval rallied from next-to-last in the 14-horse field to become the oldest winner of the Breeders’ Cup Mile, a record which still stands.
