Cardmania began his career in France, compiling a decidedly undistinguished record in claiming races, but began to blossom when he moved to California in 1991 to try dirt racing. He made 76 starts, racing until he was nine years old, but none more impressive that the 1993 Sprint. The late running gelding came barreling down the middle of the track to catch the hard luck filly Meafara at the wire, the second year in a row Meafara was second by a neck in the Sprint.
Eddie Delahoussaye was the winning rider, the first of two on Breeders' Cup day. He won later in the Distaff with Hollywood Wildcat. Cardmania was 12th in the 1992 Sprint, and returned to the race in 1994, where he finished third.
