Trainer:
L. Albertrani
Owner:
Paraneck Stable
Breeder:

Artax solidified his reputation as the nation’s best speedster when he equaled a long-standing track record while capturing the 1999 Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Gulfstream Park. The performance punctuated a standout season in which he won three other upper level races and he was the overwhelming choice for the Eclipse Award as outstanding sprinter. Artax first flashed his talent as a two-year-old by placing in the Grade 1 Hollywood Futurity. At three he was among the top horses of his generation before finding his best stride at shorter distances in his four-year-old season when he won the Sprint after taking a pair of Grade 1 races—the Vosburgh Stakes and the Carter Handicap. Overall he won seven of 25 starts and earned nearly $1.7 million before retiring to stud duty.
