Lahudood (GB)

English-bred Lahudood was overlooked in the betting at nearly 12-1 in the 2007 Filly & Mare Turf, but she rallied from seventh to score a three-quarter length victory over Honey Ryder for Shadwell Stable and trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. The granddaughter of 1991 Juvenile winner Arazi was the first Breeders’ Cup winner for jockey Alan Garcia and the second in as many years for McLaughlin. Shadwell Stable decided to ante up a $180,000 supplemental entry fee for the daughter of Singspiel, who rewarded the owners with a $1.2 million paycheck after taking the 1 3/8-mile grass race on a course listed as soft at Monmouth Park.

The bay filly had begun her racing career in Europe under the guidance of John Hammond before Shadwell brought her to the United States. She responded by winning the Grade 1 Flower Bowl at Belmont Park in her final Breeders’ Cup prep. She won the Eclipse Award for Turf Female the following winter.
