Placing in the top 3 in all but two of her 21 starts, Ashado was a model of consistency throughout her three-year racing career, which included a pair of Eclipse Award championships. Trained by Todd Pletcher for owners Starlight Stable, Paul Saylor and John Martin, Ashado won 12 times and earned purses of more than $3.9 million, and was voted top 3-year-old filly of 2004 and leading older female of 2005.
Ashado began her career with three consecutive victories, including the seven-furlong Spinaway at Saratoga Race Course, the first of seven Grade 1 triumphs. Runner-up in the 2003 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, she went 5-for-8 in 2004, including wins in the Kentucky Oaks and Breeders’ Cup Distaff. Three more Grade 1 wins followed in 2005, and she was retired after finishing third as the favorite in her return to the Distaff.
