Chamberlain Bridge surged past pace-setting Central City in the final 50 yards to win by 1 1/2 lengths in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint to give jockey Jamie Theriot and trainer Bret Calhoun their second victory of the 2010 Championships at Churchill Downs. Left in Chamberlain Bridge’s wake was 2009 Turf Sprint winner California Flag.
A winner for the first time in his second start at Presque Isle Downs on Sept. 7, 2007, Chamberlain Bridge is one of the most traveled Breeders’ Cup victors having posted triumphs at 10 tracks in a career that was still going in 2012. The Breeders’ Cup victory was the second graded stakes victory at Churchill Downs for Chamberlain Bridge who had won the Grade 3 Turf Sprint in 2009. In an attempt to repeat as champion, he finished eighth in the 2011 Turf Sprint at Churchill.
