More Than Real overcame a wide trip and had enough left in the tank to turn back favored Winter Memories by two lengths to win the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Churchill Downs, and gave her owner, celebrity chef Bobby Flay, his first Breeders’ Cup win. The triumph was also the first of three at the 2010 Championships for jockey Garrett Gomez and trainer Todd Pletcher. The victory represented the 10th in the Championships for Gomez and the fourth for Pletcher.
A winner in his initial start on Aug. 14, 2010 at Saratoga, More Than Real had finished second to New Normal in her stakes debut in the Natalma (Grade 3) at Woodbine in her second start. Her next race would be the Breeders’ Cup, in which she defeated 13 rivals that included New Normal.
