My Miss Aurelia
My Miss Aurelia is the elegant two-year-old filly, named for an equally charming lady, who has already earned her distinction as a champion in just four starts. The bay daughter of Smart Strike broke her maiden in July at Saratoga and then went on to score her first graded-stakes win in just her second lifetime start when she took the Grade II Adirondack at Saratoga in August.
It was on October 8th at Belmont Park however, where she rolled out a truly demonstrative victory, dominating the Grade I Frizette with a jazzy front-running effort that culminated in a 5 1/4 length exclamation point against the competitive field.
My Miss Aurelia is out of the Sea of Secrets mare My Miss Storm Cat and Stonestreet is the proud breeder of both My Miss Aurelia and her stakes-placed half brother, Albergatti, the mare's first two starters. My Miss Aurelia was purchased by George Bolton at Keeneland's September Yearling sale in 2010 for $550,000. Because Stonestreet and George Bolton have a long relationship of partnering on horses, and because the filly was one of Jess Jackson's favorites on the farm, another partnership was born with Stonestreet retaining a 50 percent interest in their beloved homebred filly.
My Miss Aurelia is named for George Bolton's mother, Aurelia, who has been present for each of her four victories giving an extra-special sentimental flavor to an already dazzling filly.
Steve Asmussen's assistant trainer Scott Blasi says that My Miss Aurelia has a high cruising speed and, "the rare ability to accelerate off that speed."
She solidified her status as a champion on November 4th, when she rocketed to a three-length victory in the Grade I Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies under Corey Nakatani at Churchill Downs.
