The 2011 champion female sprinter has shown a rare durability, running in nearly 40 races for trainer Bill Kaplan, who co-owns her with Adam Lazarus’ Pinnacle Racing Stables. Musical Romance was purchased for only $22,000 at the OBS April 2yo sale, and since has rewarded her connections by becoming a millionaire.
The winner of the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint likes to give her backers the excitement of making her finishes close, saving her famous fight for the end. Musical Romance, bred in Florida by Ocala Stud, was named Florida’s 2011 Horse of the Year. She is sired by Concorde’s Tune – Candlelightdinner, by Slew Gin Fizz, and speedsters abound in her family tree. There could be more to come from her, as her regular jockey Juan Leyva says she’s still improving as a five-year-old in 2012.
