Alluring Star showed plenty of star potential at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s March two-year-olds in training sale. High-end buyers were thoroughly impressed with her looks at the barn and on the track, especially when she excelled through the stretch. The Baoma Corp. liked her the most and took her home for $850,000.
When she was thoroughly prepared for competition six months later, trainer Bob Baffert entered her in a maiden race and she responded with a front-running triumph in at Del Mar on September 3. Promoted to stakes company, Alluring Star displayed her tenacity when second in Santa Anita’s Chandelier Stakes September 30. She took an early lead and fought gamely to hold her advantage before settling for the runner-up spot.
“This horse took a really big step,” jockey Joe Talamo said immediately after the race. “She was cruising right along and when (the winner Moonshine Memories) came to her, she put up a fight. She has a really, really bright future.”
Prior to being sold at the Ocala sale, Alluring Star was a $125,000 purchase at the Keeneland September yearling sale where she was consigned by her breeder Woods Edge Farm. Owned by Irish-born Peter Callaghan, Woods Edge Farm is a 700-acre spread in Lexington, Kentucky.
