Catch A Glimpse
Catch a Glimpse
Catch a Glimpse returns to the Breeders’ Cup after winning the Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) at Keeneland in 2015. The triumph propelled her to Sovereign Award honors as Horse of the Year, champion 2-year-filly and champion grass female in Canada where she won the Natalma Stakes (Can-G2).
She has improved her resume this season with a busy schedule highlighted by five graded stakes victories including the Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes (G1) July 7.
Co-owner Jeff Begg, who races under the name Windways Farm, said he could tell Catch a Glimpse would be quick when he saw her at the 2014 Keeneland September yearling sale. He was the winning bidder at $75,000.
“She looked fast standing still,” Begg said after the Natalma victory. “I wound up buying her and then Mike Ambler and Gary Barber bought a piece of her. She always looked like she’d probably be headed to the turf with her pedigree and she proved us right.”
Those words spoken late in the summer of 2015 make Begg seem almost clairvoyant as Catch a Glimpse closes in on $2 million in earnings. In her career debut on dirt as a 2-year-old, she checked in fifth before going unbeaten in her next eight starts while racing exclusively on grass. The streak ended August 21 when she was the game runner-up in the Lake Placid Stakes (G2) at Saratoga.
