World Approval represents three generations of breeding by Charlotte Weber’s Live Oak Stud, which also bred his dam, Win Approval and granddam, Negotiator. Win Approval also produced 2006 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner and Eclipse Award champion grass horse Miesque’s Approval.

World Approval needed little time to add to his heritage. Fourth and then third in his first two starts, World Approval found his best stride when switched to grass. He launched his 3-year-old campaign with come-from-behind victories in a Gulfstream Park maiden race and Sophomore Turf Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs. He flaunted his versatility that summer in winning the American Derby at Arlington Park after racing just behind the leader.

“I’m not sure that’s exactly the way he wants to run, but good horses can overcome things,” trainer Mark Casse said after the race.

World Approval used his front-end stalking style in winning in Grade 1 company when he captured the Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga Race Course on August 12 and the 2016 United Nations Stakes at Monmouth Park.

The only instructions I told him (jockey Manny Franco) was that he likes a target,” Casse said. That was one of the reasons we cut him back to a mile, because we thought if we could win the Breeders' Cup Mile or have a shot anywhere, it would be a mile [race]. When you run him farther, he doesn't get a target. [If it's] shorter, there's more speed. He got a target and it looked like he loved it.”

Based on 4,500 acres in Ocala, Florida, Live Oak Stud has been churning out upper level winners for four decades. Weber’s grandfather John T. Dorrance pioneered condensed soup as the Campbell’s brand.
