Masar comes to the Breeders’ Cup packed with potential. After winning the Solario Stakes at England’s Sandown Park Sept. 2, trainer Charlie Appleby informed the press that the colt will improve with age. His target races for 2018 are the Two Thousand Guineas and Epsom Derby.
A month later, Masar was third in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (Grand Criterium) at Chantilly in France.
Appleby has been training for Masar’s owner Godolphin Racing since 2013 after spending 15 years in various positions with the stable. His roles through the years included traveling assistant. He now handles Godolphin’s divisions in Dubai and Newmarket. In his only Breeders’ Cup appearance, Appleby won the 2013 Juvenile Turf with Godolphin’s Outstrip.
Godolphin has Thoroughbreds around the globe with horses in training in America, Dubai, England, Ireland, France and Australia. Their Kentucky stallion roster includes their 2008 Juvenile winner Midshipman.
